Data Catalogs and Semantic Search

Went down a rabbit hole this weekend.

Got curious about knowledge graphs—Neo4j’s stuff on semantic search. At first, I didn’t get it. But the more I read, the more it felt like… we’ve been forcing our data to speak a language it never learned.

Most data catalogs I’ve seen previously feel like fancy filing cabinets. Lots of tags. Lots of docs. But no real understanding. Just metadata sitting in different corners, disconnected.

What if the point isn’t to document everything, but to connect what matters?

Still wrapping my head around it. But something about modeling relationships instead of just inventory feels like a shift. Early days. Curious where this goes.
